DEKALB, TX (KSLA) -

A volunteer firefighter in DeKalb is accused of using a fire department credit card without permission to fill up on thousands of dollars worth of gas.

Chase Payne, 28, was arrested back on September 9 and charged with felony theft, after the DeKalb Police Chief Shawn Walraven noticed a discrepancy while preparing the upcoming budget.

Chief Walraven says more than $5,000 dollars worth of purchases were made over the past year on the card.

Funds for the volunteer fire department come from the city and community donations.

Payne is no longer a volunteer firefighter with the DeKalb Volunteer Fire Department.
