GTA5 hits stores: More graphic, more violent

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V hit stores today, and flocks of avid gamers were at stores waiting to pick up their copy. The game has caused controversy in the past for its violent nature, and one local psychologist says this may have an effect on the people who play it.

In GTA5, you can shoot a gun, sell drugs, and even buy sex from a prostitute. These thrills are just a couple of reasons why the game is a top seller.

The game first debuted in 1997.

"I've played every one so I have to keep playing them," says Laura Hood.

Hood is just one of the customers who came to the GameStop store on Youree Drive to pick up a copy of the game.

This version of the game is more graphic than ever, and one local psychologist says this may have an effect on those who play it.

"Graphics now are so realistic and it involves actual participation of the actual 1st person shooter game," says Psychologist Bruce McCormick.

McCormick says games like this allow players to rehearse criminal behavior, and this is why violent crimes can be connected to the playing of violent video games.

Any controversy is not slowing down sales of GTA5. The game is expected to sell 25 million copies worldwide.

The GTA series has sold more than 125 million copies.
