BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A Baton Rouge police officer is on leave after being accused of getting into a fight at the Varsity Theatre on Highland Road near LSU.

Officer Taylor DeRousselle, 24, is accused of punching a Varsity employee in the face on Saturday, Sept. 7th.

The investigation reveals a Varsity Theatre bouncer was working inside the bar area when he saw DeRousselle involved in an argument with an unknown person. The bouncer says he intervened and started escorting DeRousselle out, but before the two could make it out of Varsity, DeRousselle displayed his BRPD ID card and said "I am a (explicative) cop, I will arrest everyone here."

In the report, the victim said he placed his arms up to signal to DeRousselle that he had no aggression towards him, but a few seconds later, DeRousselle "took a deep breath and struck (the bouncer) once in the left side of his face with a closed fist."

The officer is charged with simple battery with a bond set at $500.

DeRousselle graduated with the Baton Rouge Police Department's 79th basic training academy in July 2013. He was assigned to Uniform Patrol with District 4.

Per standard procedure, DeRousselle is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
