BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

People from across the country, including Baton Rouge, are heading to Colorado to help the state that's been ravaged by heavy rains and flooding.

Carolyn Adams with the Baton Rouge Red Cross left for Colorado Tuesday morning. More volunteers are on standby ready to go help if needed.

At least eight people are dead and more than 600 are stranded or unaccounted for after days of rain caused heavy flooding.

Adams said volunteering is something she was born to do.

She will spend a few weeks in Colorado, helping to provide a safe place for evacuees to stay.
