LSU to turn over presidential candidate search records

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The LSU Board of Supervisors has agreed to turn over the records relating to the search for a system President. However, the records are to remain sealed until an appeal is heard.

The Advocate and The Times-Picayune want to know the names of those considered for the LSU System President/Chancellor position that was filled by F. King Alexander.

LSU said F. King Alexander was the only official applicant for the job. LSU refused to release the records, prompting a lawsuit from The Advocate.

Last week, District Judge Janice Clark ordered the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office to seize records from the LSU Board of Supervisors relating to the search. When deputies from the sheriff's office arrived at LSU, they were told the records were not there. East Baton Rouge Sheriff's deputies were told the records were in Dallas at the search firm that was hired to find a new president.

Judge Janice Clark ordered LSU to turn over the records last April. In August, Clark ruled that LSU was in contempt of court and has fined the school $500 each day since then for failing to comply.

Attorneys for The Advocate and The Times-Picayune and also for the Board of Supervisors reached an agreement Monday.

A trial date has not been set.
