CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

A Caddo sheriff's deputy is on paid administrative leave following his arrest on a charge of driving under the influence.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office confirms Lt. Don Gibbs was cited for DWI after becoming involved in a wreck at Buncombe Road and Winder Drive.  No one was injured.

Gibbs called in to the sheriff's office following the wreck just before 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Once on the scene, deputies determined that Reginald T. Lewis, of the 3000 block of Colquitt Road, had caused the accident when he attempted to pass as Gibbs was turning left.  Lewis was charged with passing in a no-passing zone, driving under suspension, and DWI second offense.

Deputies also determined that Gibbs, who was off-duty and in his private vehicle, had also been drinking and he was charged with DWI first offense.  Gibbs was placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation into his actions.

Gibbs has served as a spokesperson for the sheriff's office for several years.
