Nationwide: 9/11 is Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance
Known until September 10, 2012 as Patriot Day, September 11 of each year is designated in memory of the 2,977 killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
On this day, the President requests that the American flag be flown at half-staff at individual American homes, at the White House, and on all U.S. government buildings and establishments, home and abroad.
The President also asks Americans to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 A.M. (Eastern Daylight Time), the time the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Americans are also encouraged to find volunteer and service opportunities.
It is not a federal holiday, so schools and businesses do not close in observance of the occasion, although people may participate in memorial ceremonies for the victims.

Bossier City set to remember 9/11 with ceremony
Bossier City's annual memorial ceremony in remembrance of the victims of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks will take place Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the Liberty Garden located at the Bossier City Municipal Complex, 620 Benton Road. The ceremony is sponsored by Keep Bossier Beautiful and the City of Bossier City.
Benton Elementary School holds "Heroes Walk"
Benton Elementary School will continue to honor our heroes with a Heroes Walk on the new track, beginning at 3 p.m. and concluding at 8 p.m. Residents from the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home will be the guests of honor. A donation of $1 is being suggested to walk a lap with all proceeds benefiting the NWLA War Veterans Home. Concession proceeds will go toward the Wounded Warrior Project.
Benton Elementary is located at 562 Highway 162 in Benton.
Team RWB hosts a "9/11 Moving Tribute" in Shreveport
This year, the Shreveport Chapter of Team Red, White and Blue will be hosting a "Moving Tribute" to those that lost their lives on that day and in the wars since. They will be meeting at the Veterans Memorial on Clyde Fant Parkway at sunrise, and will keep the flag moving until sunset.

They will be at the park all day, and welcome visitors to stop by and spend some time with the flag and show support.
Shreveport firefighters pause to remember the fallen heroes of September 11, 2001
Shreveport Fire Department will honor the sacrifice of the 343 fallen New York City firefighters, 23 New York City Police officers and the more than 2,800 innocent 9/11 victims on Wednesday.
Prayer services will mark a day of remembrance in Marshall
There will be a brief prayer service on the east side of the old county courthouse in memory of the lives lost on 9/11/01.
Then, at 5:30 p.m., there will be a special service at St. Joseph Catholic Church in honor of the first responders lost, as and all those lost on September 11. Local police, firefighters and volunteer firefighters are encouraged to attend, along with the general public.
SAU hosting 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance 2013
Southern Arkansas University is hosting a 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance 2013 event from 12:15 – 12:45 p.m. Wednesday in front of Harton Theatre in the University Mall.
