PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Tropical moisture linked to a dying tropical storm off the coast of Baja Mexico may trigger areas of heavy rain and localized flooding through Tuesday, CBS 5 meteorologists said.

Those "surges" of moisture will help kick off scattered showers and thunderstorms through Tuesday of the upcoming week, said CBS 5 meteorologist Jason Kadah.

The primary concern will be pockets of heavy rain as storms will be slow-movers, Kadah said.  The heaviest rain will fall in the typical higher elevation locations surrounding the Valley.

Up to a 1/2 inch of rain is possible by the end of the day Sunday in the Phoenix area. There's a good chance of showers and thunderstorms continuing Monday and Monday night.

Tropical depression Lorena is expected to stall near central Baja California later Sunday. As it weakens to a remnant low pressure system, it will spin off moisture into the desert Southwest.

Lorena will remain stationary, sparking a chance of continuous showers over the next few days.

With the additional clouds and better rain chances, high temperatures will only top out in the 90s through midweek, although it will feel rather humid by Arizona standards.

Warmer temperatures return by the end of the week.

The latest weather changes come on the heels of storms that hit Phoenix Friday night.

The storms triggered delays at Sky Harbor International Airport ranging from an extra 15 minutes to an hour, according to the FAA.

Central Phoenix near 24th Street and McDowell Ave appeared to take the brunt of the evening storms.

"I haven't seen it like this in Phoenix in a long time," said resident Eliciasin Ohui.

Several trees came down at Ohui's apartment complex including one that nearly blocked all of 24th street just north of Loop 202.

One tree toppled onto a carport, another crashed won in the courtyard of the complex.

Down the street at 19th Avenue and Roosevelt, a light pole connected to a live power line lay across the road. The road was shut down and traffic diverted by a Phoenix Police officer.

A nearby Circle K convenience store had its elevated marquee knocked down by the high winds.
