The city of Texarkana is asking area residents and motorists to take a survey to help them prioritize local transportation projects and travel needs.
The household travel survey is being sponsored by the Texas Department of Transportation and the Texarkana Metropolitan Planning Organization.
The survey will help TxDot and the MPO look at local project needs as well as new roads in certain areas to help reduce traffic congestion.
Letters will be sent out next week to selected households in Bowie and Miller County. It will provide background information and let residents know that the survey is strictly voluntary. Those households receiving letters will get a phone call after a few days asking for their participation in the survey. Those who agree to take part will receive a survey packet and a travel day will be assigned starting the week of September 23. Motorists will be asked to record their travels for that particular day. Then, you will be assigned a date when a vendor will call and collect your travel data.
The results of the data collected will be shared with the MPO. They will update their computer model that will enable and help them plan for future traffic demands.
