LEWISVILLE, AR (KSLA) -

The inmate escaped from custody in Lafayette County Friday morning is back in custody, after a friend helped track him down.

Police say 20-year-old Kenneth James Faulks was handcuffed and being held on an armed robbery charge at the county jail in Lewisville when he escaped. They say it happened around 9:30 a.m. as deputies prepared to take him to the courthouse nearby for a hearing.

Schools in the area were placed on lockdown while police looked for Faulk, but they say it was a friend Faulks that helped talk him into giving himself up.

Police say the friend had a hunch on where to find Faulks, and turned out to be right. After talking it out, they called authorities. A short time later, Faulks was taken into custody without incident at a home about a block away from Lewisville Elementary School.

The lockdown at the schools has been lifted.
