Demand has jumped during game week for tickets to the Northwestern State football team's home opener Saturday at 6 in Turpin Stadium against in-state rival Southern but there were plenty of tickets available after NSU ticket offices closed Wednesday evening.
About 30 percent of the seats on the stadium's 6,000-seat east side, known as the student side, are open along with about three-quarters of the seats in the 5,000-seat west side upper deck, said Kyle Barnard, NSU's athletic ticket manager. All seats are reserved seats, with row and seat assignments for each ticket, and are $20 each.
Ticket purchases can be made online at NSUDemons.com/Tickets with a secure credit card transaction until 2 p.m. Saturday.
They can also be made by telephone (318-357-4268, 318-357-5251) or by visiting the NSU ticket office in the Athletic Fieldhouse, located just south of Turpin Stadium, from 9-5 until Friday evening. Tickets are also available in Baton Rouge at the Southern athletic ticket office.
Available tickets will be sold on Saturday at the NSU ticket office beginning at 9 a.m. through the first half of the game, and at stadium gates beginning at 3:30. There will be no standing room only tickets or temporary seating sold.
The reserved seat locations encompass 15,971-seat Turpin Stadium, which has sold out each of Southern's four previous visits in 1994, 1996, 1998 and 2000. The teams last met in 2002 in Shreveport.
Fans driving RVs can purchase reserved parking slots for $30 through both ticket offices. The NSU contact is Matt Baca at 318-357-4293.
A $10 parking fee for vehicles entering the south side of campus surrounding Turpin Stadium has been instituted since Southern's last visit to the NSU campus in 2000. The paid parking zones are very convenient to access the stadium and the Demon Alley Tailgating Zone, and other prime tailgating locations around the NSU athletic facilities.
There are free parking areas on the north side of campus within walking distance of the stadium.
