SULPHUR SPRINGS, TX (KLTV) -
When you've gotta go, you've gotta go, and one East Texas restroom is in the running to become the best place in the country to go.
Cintas, a national uniform and restroom supply company, is hosting the 12th annual "Bowl Games" in an effort to find America's best restroom. Ten pristine potties are in the running to become this year's winner, and one of them is located in Sulphur Springs.
Public restrooms aren't typically known for their uniqueness and public draw, but the all glass bathrooms located on the square near the Hopkins County Courthouse are an exception. The artistic restrooms are the first of their kind in the United States and the only functional, code complying glass bathrooms constructed with one-way mirrors. Users of the facility can see the people around them in the downtown square, but no one can see them inside.
The restrooms were initially part of an art exhibit, but became "functional art" after construction workers began using them. The pair of gleaming glass beauties did not come cheap. They cost the city around $54,000.
Other toilets competing for the top pot are located in California, Florida, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon and Wisconsin. To find out more about the restrooms and to vote for your favorite, visit the Cintas' America's Best Restroom website.
