LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

East Texas dialysis clinics said they could be forced to close if the Centers for Medicaid and Services passes a proposed budget cut.

CMS is proposing a $24 cut from the $250 treatment rate based on changes in drug utilization over time.

"What we get paid or reimbursed by CMS doesn't even cover the cost of the treatments that we provide, and that's not withstanding any cut at all," said DaVita Regional Vice President, Debbie Wolfe.

Wolfe said if the proposal passes, six out of seven DaVita clinics in this region would be operating at a financial loss.

That could mean shorter hours, fewer employees or possibly the closure of clinics.

CMS is taking public comments on the matter, and their deadline is midnight on September 3.

Comments can be submitted electronically at www.regulations.gov. At the site, use the rule's Identification number CMS-2013-0150-0002 to find the document.
