KSLA News 12 Editorial: Sept. 2nd-Labor Day

This is the time of year we celebrate Labor Day. It's a time to say thanks to all the workers in America for making our country what it is today.

It's also a time to assess the workforce in the ArkLaTex. What are the hot jobs? What opportunities are out there for local workers?

I checked with the Workforce Commission and here are the occupations expected to be in demand in Northwest Louisiana in the coming years.

Hospitality and tourism is expected to have the most jobs to fill every year. Marketing and sales will have 1,150 jobs. Business, management and administration…940 positions. Health science…790. And transportation and distribution should have around 690 jobs available each year.

As you look over the top paying jobs, let's say $70,000 and above, all require a good education.

It's one more reason it's essential our young people stay in school.

I'm James Smith.

State Police Supt. Col. Mike Edmonson needs to address this inexcusable behavior directly and restore the public's confidence. He should be fully transparent in his investigation into the matter and should invite an outside entity to look into the matter.

Be on the lookout for kids. They seem to dart out from everywhere. They are certainly not looking out for you; so please look out for them.
