Caldwell Zoo flamingo eggs hatches

It's an exciting time at the Caldwell Zoo. The chilean flamingos have laid their eggs and yesterday the first baby flamingo of the group hatched.

Zoo keepers collected the eggs to make sure they are able to safely hatch. They replaced the eggs with fake ones in the flamingo's nests so they can continue to care for them.

"We will go out and collect the egg and put a fake egg out there, and the reason we do that is to protect the egg," said Brenda Davis, Bird Supervisor at the Caldwell Zoo. "We bring the real egg back to the incubator room, and we will incubate it for the 28 days. Then just prior to the baby hatching, we bring it back to the parents."

They expect all of the baby flamingos to be here by September 19th.
