Florida offense solid, not explosive in opening win

GAINESVILLE, FL - The Florida Gators kept an opening-game winning streak that spans more than two decades intact with a 24-6 win over Toledo on Saturday.

Florida's 24-game streak ranks only behind Nebraska's 27 as the nation's best for season openers.

Running back Mack Brown ran for 112 yards in place of Matt Jones, who missed the game with a viral infection. The Gators (1-0) dominated on the ground, outgaining the Rockets' rushing attack 262-50.

The efficient running game took pressure off Jeff Driskel, who threw for a touchdown and 153 yards on 17-of-22 passing. His 4-yard touchdown pass to fullback Gideon Ajagbe came late in the third quarter and was the final score of the game.

The only scores for Toledo (0-1) were on 44-yard and 23-yard field goals by Jeremiah Detmer.

Florida capped its opening drive with Brown's 1-yard touchdown run. It was the first time in four seasons the Gators had scored on their first possession of the season.

Brown added a 14-yard score to put Florida ahead 17-6 early in the third. Austin Hardin added a 24-yard field goal to begin scoring in the second quarter.
