El Charro is coming back

El Charro has officially announced they are re-opening their doors, but this time in a new location and under new ownership.

The restaurant will be called "El Charro On The Ridge" and will be located off of Old Jacksonville in the Oak Ridge shopping center in Tyler, near FRESH by Brookshires.

"You know, for the past almost 70 years it's been around and Tyler, Texas, grew up on El Charros, so this is an opportunity to bring it back and continue the tradition of selling excellent Mexican food," said Manny Vela who owns the restaurant with his wife, Ana.

Vela said he is excited about what this new location will bring to his customers, like a new outdoor seating area. However, he promises that your same favorite El Charro items will be offered at the new restaurant along with a few new calorie-friendly options as well.

"The food will be the same food, the sauces will be the same sauces, the cooks are going to be the same cooks," explained Mike Bentley, the restaurant's general manager.

"There are employees from both locations who have been with the Ramirez family for over forty years. This is the only job they ever had. Can you imagine how excited they are to know they can back here and be a part of this again?" Bentley asked.

Vela said they will have about 95 percent of the same wait staff and cooks as they did in the previous El Charro restaurants, but there will be a lot of new faces as well.

They said their loyal customers are just as excited to get back to the restaurant as their former employees.

"People have been calling for weeks. We already have parties booked for Christmas," Bentley explained.

And they hope this new location will bring in some new customers as well.

"I've seen four different generations of families eating in that restaurant, but we hope to bring new people with the outside patio. We have a bar, a full service sit down bar," Bentley explained.

Vela said they have a little more work to do before they can open their doors, but he said they are excited about serving East Texans again soon.

Vela hopes to be open for business by the end of October.
