Burn ban ordered for Bowie Co., TX

A burn ban has been ordered for Bowie County, Texas, due to drought conditions in the county.

The order, issued by the Commissioner's Court of Bowie County, prohibits all outdoor burning in the county for 90 days unless lifted by the Texas Forest Service or the Court.

The order specifies that it does not prohibit outdoor burning activities related to public health and safety that are authorized by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for firefighting training, public utility, natural gas pipeline or mining operation, planting or harvesting of agricultural crops or burns that are conducted by a prescribed burn manager under certain state codes.

Burn bans are already in effect for most of East Texas, including Cass, Upshur, Gregg, Marion, Harrison, Panola, Rusk Shelby, Nacogdoches, San Augustine and Sabine counties.

In northwest Louisiana, Burn bans are already in effect for Webster, Bossier, DeSoto and the southern half of Caddo Parish, including fire districts 3, 4, 5 and 6. That includes Greenwood, Keithville, the South Ellerbe area and basically everything from South Lakeshore south.
