Burn ban ordered for Sabine Parish

Posted: Updated:
SABINE PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

Sabine Parish has become the latest Louisiana Parish to placed under a burn ban.

According to an order signed Monday morning by the president of the Sabine Parish Police Jury and the Director of the parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, the parish is faced with a pending emergency with "a definite threat to property and lives" due to the impact of an extreme drought condition.

The fire ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including garbage, grass, leaves, etc. Burn permits can only be issued by one of the Sabine Parish fire chiefs.

The order will remain in effect until the impending threat has subsided, or 30 days from the date of the declaration.

Burn bans are already in effect for Webster, Bossier, DeSoto and the southern half of Caddo Parish, including fire districts 3, 4, 5 and 6. That includes Greenwood, Keithville, the South Ellerbe area and basically everything from South Lakeshore south.

Burn bans are also in effect for most of East Texas, including Cass, Upshur, Gregg, Marion, Harrison, Panola, Rusk Shelby, Nacogdoches, San Augustine and Sabine counties.
