SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Dozens of bikers, family, and friends gathered Thursday night to mourn the loss of 30-year-old Lonnie Davis, killed last weekend in a motorcycle wreck.

A candle light vigil was held at the dead-end of Preston Avenue at Clyde Fant Parkway, where police say Davis lost control of his bike and wrecked.

Police say Davis was among of group of riders that were reportedly driving erratically along Shreveport-Barksdale Highway, and when officers showed up they fled the scene.

Davis headed down Knight Street and turned on to Preston. Police say the officer that went looking for him spotted a plume of smoke at the end of the dead-end street. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died. Police say they are still investigating the cause of the wreck.

Family members say Davis' death was too sudden. "All we can do now is pray to god to give us strength, because this type of tragedy, you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy," said Davis' cousin Andre Jones.

"We're more so shocked than anything, we're just trying to really get to the bottom of why this happened," said Jones.

The wake for Davis is set for Friday at Lake Bethlehem at 8 p.m. His funeral will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
