SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A Shreveport man credits his neighbors for saving his life from the fire that damaged his home late Wednesday night.

It happened in at a home in the 600 block of Robinhood Street just before 11 p.m.

Layne Richardson, who says he is disabled, says he woke up to the smell of something burning and the sound of sirens. He credits his neighbors for looking out for him and getting the fire department to his home as quickly as they arrived.

Richardson says he's lived in the home for 35 years.

There is no word yet on how much damage was done, and no word yet on a cause.
