Information from the Shreveport Police Department:

Shreveport Police are seeking the identity and whereabouts of a suspect involved in a hit and run that seriously injured a local man Tuesday evening.

Just after 7:00 p.m. on August 20, 2013, Shreveport Police responded to the 6500 block of Burke Street relative to a hit and run accident.

Upon officer's arrival at the scene, a male pedestrian was observed lying unresponsive along the roadway.  The man, identified as 35 year old John Ashcraft of the 3000 block of Sunnybrook Street in Shreveport, suffered injuries considered to be life-threatening.  Ashcraft was subsequently transported via ambulance to LSUHSC where he was last listed in critical condition.

Shreveport Police Crash investigators were called to the scene of the accident, at which time an immediate investigation was launched.  Preliminary information was gathered suggesting a white male driver, operating a model year 2000-2006, white GMC Yukon, with possibly a primer painted passenger side front fender, struck Ashcraft.  It was learned that Ashcraft was reportedly hit by the driver of the GMC Yukon he had been a passenger in just moments earlier, suggesting he may have known the offender.

Authorities are hopeful the vehicle's description will aid in identifying and apprehending the person responsible for the crime.  As the investigation continues, persons with information regarding the accident are urged to contact Caddo Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373 or on their website at www.lockemup.org
