2-A-Days Previews: Texas High School

Posted: Updated:
TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -

After what head coach Barry Norton called a "down year", Texas High has their sights set on a district title.

"I like our chances of winning the championship," said Norton, who mentioned that Sulphur Springs is the early favorite.

With seven returning starters on offense, the Tigers have high expectations for their point production.

"You can replace athletic ability. You can't replace the experience part of it. I think this group, coming back on offense has a good grasp of what we're trying to do," said Norton. "They are physically capable and they're committed to doing it."

Defensively the Tigers will be young with only four returning members from the 2012 squad.

"We've got a defensive tackle back, a middle linebacker back, and a safety back so we've got a good nucleus with lost of speed and lost of talent around them."

That talent will be put to the test on week one with Texas and Arkansas high clashing for a border battle. It is a game seniors like Tariq Hill have been looking forward to since putting on a Tiger uniform.

"I do think about it sometimes. I want to focus on the overall big picture. I want to win all the games not just that game but I do want to win that game more than some games."
