BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

A popular Bossier City restaurant will remain closed for at least 6 weeks following a fire that left it heavily damaged Monday morning.

Fire crews were called to Griff's Restaurant in the 2900 block of Old Minden Road at around 9:15 a.m. Bossier City spokesperson Mark Natale says the first engine company arrived on the scene within four minutes and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building.

Firefighters located the fire in the attic and had it under control in about 15 minutes.

Natale says several employees were in the restaurant preparing to open for the day when they noticed smoke and called Bossier 9-1-1. All of the employees got out of the building unharmed.

The structure sustained heavy smoke damage to much of the attic along with smoke and water damage to much of the building.

Griff's of America spokesman Harvey Fattig says the cause could be connected to an electric motor in the attic that operates the neon sign in front of the building, but the Bossier City Fire Department is still investigating and no official cause has been announced.

Griff's has long been a mainstay in Bossier City. The company-owned building opened in 1966. Now, Fattig says it will remain closed for 6 to 8 weeks for repairs and management will meet with employees this week to discuss what can be done to assist them while the restaurant is closed. Transfers to the Shreveport location are possible.
