KSLA News 12 Editorial: Aug. 19th- Back at Square One

40,000 students in Caddo Parish returned to class this week along with thousands of teachers. But there is no permanent school superintendent.

This month the school board failed to hire a new superintendent even after spending more than $30,000 on the search. It came down to two candidates, neither of which could muster enough votes to be selected.

So, what's the problem? With 15 Caddo schools still on the failing list, how many candidates will want to move to Shreveport to take on the monumental task of turning things around? Perhaps the salary is too low for a school district this size. Maybe the school board needs to look to the private sector for a new leader.

We count on our elected school board members to find the best person to be the new superintendent.

Unfortunately, after months of searching, we are back at square one.

I'm James Smith.

State Police Supt. Col. Mike Edmonson needs to address this inexcusable behavior directly and restore the public's confidence. He should be fully transparent in his investigation into the matter and should invite an outside entity to look into the matter.
