East Texas crews are busy cleaning up a train derailment caused by a logging truck.
It happened just before 10 a.m. Saturday morning on FM 2148 in Liberty Eylau, just outside Texarkana.
According to Liberty Eylau fire chief David Wesselhoft, the driver of an 18-wheeler rounded a corner and saw the railroad crossing arms coming down. The driver told the chief he knew he would not be able to beat the approaching train so he tried to avoid the collision by laying the rig on its side. Some of the logs on the truck rolled onto the track, causing the train to derail.
The train rolled over into the ditch, causing 7 cars to jump the tracks.
The train engineer and truck driver were both taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the chief said.
No names have been released.
It is not known exactly when the crash scene will be cleaned up.
