Police: Finneytown man shot after answering door

FINNEYTOWN, OH (FOX19) -

Police say a man was shot Thursday after answering his door in Finneytown.

Emergency crews were dispatched to Redbird Drive, just off of Mockingbird Lane, around 4:45 p.m. for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers found 63-year-old Jose Coreas suffering a gunshot wound.

After a preliminary investigation, police say a man knocked on the door of Coreas' home. The victim opened the door and a struggle ensued. Police say Coreas was shot during the incident, and the suspect, described as a black male with a slender build, fled through the backyard.

Witnesses told police the suspect got into a white newer model, cross-over style SUV and fled the scene.

The victim was taken to UC Medical Center for treatment. He is listed in critical condition.
