Posted: Updated:

2013 is an off-year when it comes to elections, but the October 19 election will fill unexpired terms for seats left vacant by resignations and deaths.

Races voters in Northwest Louisiana will decide on include:

  • Caddo Parish Commissioner for District 5 - This seat was held by Former Commissioner Joyce Bowman. She died on May 26 after a long battle with cancer. The Caddo Parish Commission appointed her son, Jerry Bowman, Jr., to fill the vacancy until a new person is elected.
  • Caddo District Judge - Judge Jeanette Garrett ran unopposed earlier this year for a vacancy on the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals. She replaced Judge Gay Gaskins who took an early retirement.
  • Bossier Parish School Board District 3 - Board Member Dr. Allison Bringham resigned from the position after she moved out of the district. Jill Frost was picked to replace Bringham until this fall's election.
  • Mayor of Minden - Longtime mayor Bill Roberson passed away in early July. This election will fill the rest of his unexpired term.
  • Mayor of Ringgold - Mayor Stephone Taylor, who was re-elected to the position in 2010, resigned from the office in mid-March. He cited a need to better his manage his business affairs as the reason he decided to step down.
  • The October ballot will also have numerous proposals for voters to decide. In Caddo Parish, there is a $23.39 million bond proposal. The money would be used for general repairs and improvements throughout the parish.
