TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -

A man is in custody following a standoff in Texarkana, Texas Wednesday night.

It happened at a home in the 1300 block of Waterall Street near 13th Street.

Police say it happened before 7 p.m. when they went to serve a felony warrant out of Wake Village on a suspect in multiple car burglaries where weapons had been stolen.

The man ran into his house and barricaded himself inside. Police knew there were others inside the home, but they say they were not being held against their will.

A SWAT team was called to the scene and began negotiations. Eventually, the others who were in the house came out, but the subject of the warrant refused to surrender.

That's when officers went into the home and searched, ultimately determining that the man was in the attic. Bowie County Deputy Jeff Neal says that's when they deployed a chemical agent in the attic to try to get him to come out and he still wouldn't.

"We were trying to give him every chance we could to come out on his own and of course getting anyone else hurt and the officers," explains Deputy Neal. "We always want any of these incidents to end as peacefully as possible."

They eventually had to physically go into the attic and take him into custody.

He has been identified as Lee-Dell Robertson, Jr. So far, he has been charged with theft of property over $15,000 and under $20,000. Police say stolen property was recovered during the execution of the search warrant.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and more charges are possible.

Robertson remains in custody on $15,000 bond.
