TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -

The man accused of fatally injuring a Texarkana, Texas police officer by hitting him with his SUV was back in court Tuesday morning, where a judge decided that prosecutors had enough evidence to support the charge against him.

21-year-old Justin Sanders is charged with aggravated assault on a public servant in the June 2013 incident in which TTPD Officer William Sprague was responding to a disturbance call at Grady T. Wallace Park. Police say Sanders intentionally struck Officer Sprague as he left the scene.

Officer Sprague died of his injuries the next day. The charge against Sanders has never been upgraded.

Sanders remains in custody at the Harrison County Jail on $1.5 million bond. No trial date has been set.
