TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -

Texarkana, Texas police now are investigating the possible connection between a man showing up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound and a report of an armed robbery earlier in the day.

Officers were called to a location in the 2400 block of New Boston Road a report of a possible aggravated robbery at around 1:45 p.m. When they arrived, they met with 47-year-old Ben Lewis of Texarkana, Arkansas.

Lewis told police that he had been driving his work van close to Blanton Street when he was flagged down by one man who pulled out a pistol while another man jumped in the passenger side. Lewis says he was ordered to drive the van a short distance down an alley between Cornella and Blanton streets and told to get out of the van. There, he says he was robbed and struck with a pistol.

During the attack, Lewis says there was a struggle over the pistol, causing it to go off and striking one of his attackers in the lower leg. Lewis says he fled down the road and was picked up by a concerned citizen. The van was later found by police, abandoned nearby.

A short time later, a man showed up at Christus St. Michael Hospital in a private vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. His name has not been released.

If anyone has any information about this crime, they are encouraged to call Texarkana Crime Stoppers at 903-793-STOP.
