KSLA News 12 Editorial: Aug. 7 - Well done, Caddo schools

It is quite an accomplishment and a significant reversal in direction: 10 Caddo Parish public schools have been taken off the failing school list.

Having so many schools on that list is a black eye for our community.  It sends a bad signal to everyone involved. Teachers, administrators, parents, students.  No one wants to go to a failing school. So when schools have improved so much that they are no longer considered failing, it's a big deal.

With that said, there are still 15 Caddo schools that get an "F" rating.  There is much work left to be done. Once a new school superintendent is selected, this will most likely be job one: Address the failing schools.

And for those 10 schools no longer on the failing list, congratulations to the teachers and principals who turned things around.  I'm James Smith.

State Police Supt. Col. Mike Edmonson needs to address this inexcusable behavior directly and restore the public's confidence. He should be fully transparent in his investigation into the matter and should invite an outside entity to look into the matter.
