A Bowie County deputy has been involved in a shooting that injured a man that reportedly came at him with a knife on Tuesday afternoon.
The deputy was patrolling the area in the 500 block of South Red River Road in Redwater, TX when it happened. He says he was getting out of his car because a child had flagged him down, when the man came at him with a knife in his hand.
When the man didn't comply with the deputy's order to drop the knife, the Bowie County Sheriff's Office says the deputy shot the man in the leg in order to protect himself.
The man was taken to a local hospital for his injuries. There is no word on his current condition, and his name has not been released.
Texas Rangers have been called in to investigate.
No other details have been provided yet about the circumstances that led the child to flag the officer down. This story will be updated when that information becomes available.
