SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

The online application period for employees at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport to reapply for their jobs will begin Monday, August 5 and run through August 16.

Employees must reapply because the facility will be managed by a private facility.  The Biomedical Research Foundation Hospital Holding Company will officially take-over the day-to-day operations of the hospital October 1.

Interviews for current employees choosing to reapply online will begin August 13 and last until August 28.  Employees will have three days to accept or reject offers from the new operator.

Workers must pass routine drug and education screenings to be eligible for employment at the hospital.  Some may choose to retire or seek employment elsewhere.

Jobs not filled with current workers will be opened to the general public August 30.  The BRFHH expects to fill most of the available positions with existing staff.

All hospital workers will be laid off on September 30 as part of the transition process and state guidelines.  Those that participate in the application process and are selected for employment by the BRFHH will begin employment October 1.

The process of moving employees from the state to private payrolls will begin with a general notice of coming layoffs on August 12.  Individual notifications will be sent out August 14 and final notices will be mailed out September 9.  The layoff plan must be sent to the Civil Service Commission for approval.

LSU hospitals around the state are making the transition, after federal matching funds for Medicaid reimbursements to the state were reduced last year.

The medical school will remain a publicly funded part of the LSU System.
