TEXARKANA, AR (KSLA) - The City of Texarkana, Arkansas is at least one step closer to selecting a new city manager, after the board of directors narrowed the 30 applications they have for the job down to 10.
"We are very satisfied with the ten that we got it down to, all of them are city manager experience," says Mayor Wayne Smith. None of the remaining 10 candidates are from Texarkana.
The city manager will be selected from among those 10 candidates within the next few weeks, but there is now specific timeline for that process.
The city's board of directors is doing the search itself instead of using an outside firm in a move they say will save taxpayers more than $20,000. It took them less than an hour to eliminate those 20 applicants on Monday afternoon.
The board is looking to replace previous city manager Harold Boldt, after they mutually parted ways in March. At the time, Mayor Smith said that no one specific item or issue led up to the decision, saying that "We felt we needed a change in direction."
