Politifact Virginia: McAullife statement on Cuccinelli way off mark

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

In this week's Politifact Virginia report, the fact checkers are still combing over last weekend's debate between the candidates for governor. And while both sides danced on the edge of truth...one particular statement from Terry McAullife is standing out a bit.

"If you read the report, which I have done, it says the attorney general should have been prosecuted, but Virginia laws are insufficient," McAullife said.

The report was the one conducted about McAuliffe's opponent Ken Cuccinelli and his involvement with Star-Scientific. But that report did not even hint that Cuccinelli should've been prosecuted.

The statement was so off the mark his pants are on fire. Sean Gorman from Politifact says it was not even close.

"The was actually nothing in the report, the word 'prosecute' never appears in the report. Herring said that he found no evidence that Cuccinelli broke any laws," said Gorman.
