TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -
After three years without a permanent leader of its 78 member fire department, the City of Texarkana, Texas now has a chief.
Eric Schlotter began moving into his new office Friday as Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Management for the city. Schlotter replaces Harry Simms, Jr., who retired in 2010 after more than 30 years with the department and served the last 6 years of them as chief.
Chief Schlotter is a 20-year veteran firefighter, spending the last 11 with the Texarkana, TX Fire Department.
The Texarkana, TX city manager said Chief Schlotter is the right leader at the right time, as the city begins a major reconfiguration of the department. "I am especially proud to serve the community where I live, my family lives, and I look forward to serving the citizens with honor and integrity. I believe I can lead the department into the future to help us continue our history of excellence."
Chief Schlotter holds several certifications with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection, including advanced firefighter, advanced arson investigator and hazardous material technician.
