Back to school shopping prices rise, some programs can help

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Back to school shopping prices have jumped 7% over the last year. That's according to the Backpack Index study from Huntington National Bank. The collection of pens, highlighters, notebooks, and binders needed could run you $60 or more. Purchasing all the items on the list for a 5th grader at Creswell Elementary cost $65, without including the price for clothes.

Pittre Walker, with Caddo Schools says those who can't afford the supplies do have a few options. The Kids in Need Foundation is teaming up with national and local Wallgreens stores for a back to school supply drive. The drive starts August 28th.

For those interested in donating, or for those who need help getting school supplies, call the Caddo Parish School Board at 603-6518.
