A portion of Barksdale Boulevard in Bossier City is closed to traffic at this hour while SWEPCO crews work to replace a power pole that was damaged after it was hit by a car around 7:30 p.m.
The closure affects the 1600 block of Barksdale Blvd. in the area of Old Minden Road.
SWEPCO crews tell Bossier City police that crews expect it to take 5-6 hours to replace the pole during which time the closure will remain in effect. No power lines were knocked to the ground.
According to Bossier City PD spokesperson Mark Natale, the woman driving the vehicle was taken to a local hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening. Witnesses tell police say the same vehicle struck two other vehicles at the intersection of Barksdale Blvd and Westgate Drive just moments before. The vehicle then kept traveling north on Barksdale Blvd until the driver lost control and hit the power pole at Barksdale and Old Minden.
The driver faces a charge of hit and run. Officers suspect alcohol was a factor and the driver could also face a DWI charge pending results of a blood alcohol test.
