KSLA News 12 Editorial: July 22, 2013-Shreveport Common

There was good news this week about Shreveport Common.

This is a nine block area near Downtown that is slowly but surely being reclaimed and redeveloped through the Shreveport Regional Arts Council.

The good news is a $150,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

How will the money be used?

The idea is to have special events from art exhibits to live music to a fresh food market. Events that will attract a cross section of people in the community to experience first hand this area of town that is being transformed.

There is already a lot taking place in this area. Renovations are underway at the Municipal Auditorium. The near-by Historic Oakland Cemetery is being preserved and the Old Central Fire Station has already been saved and turned into a headquarters for the arts.

Can't wait to see what happens next.

I'm James Smith.

State Police Supt. Col. Mike Edmonson needs to address this inexcusable behavior directly and restore the public's confidence. He should be fully transparent in his investigation into the matter and should invite an outside entity to look into the matter.

Be on the lookout for kids. They seem to dart out from everywhere. They are certainly not looking out for you; so please look out for them.
