TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) - The man accused of hitting a Texarkana, Texas police officer with his car in June made his first appearance before a judge in a Bowie County courtroom Thursday.
21-year-old Justin Sanders is charged with aggravated assault on a public servant. Officer William Sprague was struck while responding to a disturbance at Grady T. Wallace Park around 12:45 a.m. on June 14. Officer Sprague died of his injuries the next day.
Sanders remains in custody at the Harrison County Jai9l on $1.5 million bond.
At the hearing Thursday, Bowie County District Judge Bobby Lockhart indicated he expects a request for a change of venue if Sanders' case goes to trial, which has been tentatively set for February 11.
He's due back in court in August for a hearing to determine whether there is probable cause for the charge against him.
