    The fight over Common Core got hotter with dueling lawsuits. On Tuesday afternoon, The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) voted 6- 4 to join a lawsuit filed by parents and teachers against Governor Bobby Jindal. Governor Jindal's administration then filed their own lawsuit.

Narcotics agents said an investigation into suspected drug activity at a house led to a traffic stop that eventually resulted in seven arrests.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office reported the following people were arrested on drug charges, including possession of meth and heroin:

Crystal Carter, 31, of Prairieville, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of schedule II CDS (3 counts) and possession of a legend drug (2 counts)

Jeffrey Walker, 32, of Geismar, was arrested and charged with possession of schedule II CDS (2 counts), possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a legend drug

Jennifer Odom, 29, of Prairieville, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia

Caleb Wheat, 27, of St. Amant, was arrested and charged with possession of schedule II CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of heroin

Morgan Patterson, 21, of Prairieville, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia

Joanna Wascom, 28, of Gonzales, was arrested and charged with possession of schedule II CDS, possession of schedule I CDS, and possession of drug paraphernalia

Kyle Fletcher, 30, of Gonzales, was arrested and charged with possession of schedule I CDS, possession of schedule II CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia

They were all booked into the Ascension Parish Jail and were awaiting bond as of Thursday morning.

Deputies said their investigation started Monday after they received reports of suspected drug activity at Carter's home. They said she and Walker were arrested after she was pulled over in Prairieville while the APSO Narcotics Division was still investigating the case.

Detectives said as a result of the traffic stop, they searched Carter's home and arrested the five people there at the time.
