A DeSoto Parish 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a 21-year-old man in an apparent argument over a television.

DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office Lt. Horace Womack says officers responded to a 911 call in the 300 block of Cordova Road Grand Cane Wednesday morning and arrived to find 21-year-old William Christopher Dowling, shot once in the chest with a .40 caliber handgun. He was reportedly conscious and talking when he was airlifted to LSU Medical Center. He was listed in serious condition Wednesday night, a nursing supervisor there says.

17-year-old Stephen Brian Raybon II was taken into custody at the scene.

According to Lt.Womack, a juvenile witness at the scene confirmed that Dowling and Raybon had been involved in a verbal argument over a television when Dowling stepped out on the back porch of the home and sat down. That's when the witness tells investigators Raybon came out with a handgun that he had taken out of a gun cabinet inside the home. After a brief exchange of words, Raybon reportedly shot Dowling once in the chest.

Womack confirms that it was Raybon that made the call to 911, stating that he had shot Dowling. Raybon has been booked into the Desoto Parish Detention Center on a charge of attempted second degree murder.
