MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

A Murfreesboro home could be a total loss after a large fire Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews were called about 4 p.m. to the 500 block of Council Bluff Parkway, where the fire may have started inside the garage.

Nobody was injured in the fire, but the family's pet did not survive, fire officials said.

Off-duty personnel were called to assist in fighting the fire, and the American Red Cross sent a crew to help both the family, as well as the firefighters who were working in the extreme heat.

The heat index was well above 100 degrees at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
