KSLA News 12 Editorial: July 15, 2013-Water Conservation

Posted: Updated:

This July I'd like citizens of Shreveport to make a commitment to saving and protecting our drinking water.

Past summers have produced drought conditions. Rain is the ultimate source of our drinking water. It is collected from storm drains and carried to Cross Lake. Clean water is more valuable than gold. Imagine a life without clean water.

I challenge you to go one day without water. No drinking, no brushing your teeth, no bathing, no washing clothes or vehicles, and not cooking with it. You probably won't go longer than four hours without needing it.

Make small changes that make a big difference: water your lawn less - you need the water more than it does. Don't run water while brushing your teeth. Don't litter. Don't dump or pour any waste, trash or chemicals down storm drains. If you value the water that comes out of your faucet at home, than do your part to protect it.

Let's create a culture of saving our resources now, so we and our children can still have it later. Protect our water now or we'll be sorry later.

I'm Casaundra Calloway with Shreveport Green.
