Warrant issued for man in ETX weapons and ammo theft

MAUD, TX (KSLA) -

An arrest warrant has been issued for an East Texas man wanted in the theft of thousands of dollars' worth of weapons and ammunition two weeks ago from a Maud home.

According to the Bowie County Sheriff's Office, $40,000 worth of items were taken from the home in two separate burglaries, including more than 30 rifles.

Some, but not all of the stolen items have since been recovered by investigators in a storage facility in Simms, TX. Among the items recovered, according to Bowie County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Jeffery Neal, are 13 firearms, a crossbow and a large amount of ammunition taken in the burglary.

Items stolen in another burglary in the Simms area were recovered as well. Neal says tips called in to the sheriff's department helped to locate the items and identify Burnett as a suspect.

As a result, the Bowie County Sheriff's Office has issued an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Douglas Kyle Burnett.

Burnett, 24, stands 5'9" and weighs 150 pounds, is aware of the warrant and is avoiding contact with law enforcement. Authorities believe he did not act alone in this crimes.

Anyone with information on Burnett's whereabouts is asked to call 911 so he can be apprehended, and anyone with information about Burnett's accomplices can contact Investigator David Biggar at 903.628.6815.
