BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Convicted killer Michael Louding, known as "Marlo Mike," has been sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole.

A jury convicted 20-year-old Michael Louding of first-degree murder in April for the October 2009 killing of Terry Boyd.

Louding apologized to the court, saying if he would have known the pain he would cause, he would not have done it.

The defense called Louding's mother, sister and a juvenile as character witnesses during the trial.

Prosecutors said they planned to call 20 witnesses to testify during the sentencing.

The jury deliberated more than five hours before reaching a guilty verdict. Jurors asked two sets of questions during the proceedings.

"It took a while, but I think the jury was very serious," said Prosecutor Dana Cummings on April 26. "They took their responsibility extremely serious and yes, they made the right decision. It took them a while, but we're certainly glad they got there."

Five of the jurors were crying during the reading of the verdict.

"It's a difficult thing, simply because he is young. They did the right thing and I think they knew they were doing the right thing. But, it's sad that he is what he is," Cummings added.

District Attorney Hillar Moore said this is going to end up being a landmark case for East Baton Rouge Parish because of what happened. He admitted it's difficult getting cooperation in cases like this one.

"No one's running down here to become a witness, this case or any other similar case," Moore said. "It makes it real difficult."
