CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

A Shreveport woman is under arrest, accused of deserting her 18-month old baby to go downtown, where she got into a car accident.

Caddo Parish Sheriff's deputies say Brittany Jones, 23, left her child unattended and asleep in her crib around 10:30 p.m. on July 3, while she went downtown.

At 10:55 p.m., deputies allege, Jones hit a vehicle in a downtown Shreveport parking lot and left the scene. She was arrested nearby and booked into the Shreveport City Jail on charges of driving while intoxicated and hit-and-run driving.

Then, a family member who had heard that Jones had been arrested went to Jones' house in the 700 block of Jenkins Drive. Deputies say she found the baby alone, crying in her crib just after Noon on July 4, took the baby into her custody and reported the incident to the sheriff's office on July 5.

On Monday, Caddo Sheriff's Detectives James Moore and Michael Price found Jones at her home, where they interviewed her and later arrested her on the child desertion charge and on a count of being in possession of a drug, 13 Cyclobenzaprine Hydrochloride pills.

Jones was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center.
