SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A rising senior at Caddo Magnet High School is beating the odds.  Sarah Vallacchi nearly lost sight of her dreams when she moved out of her mother's home.  Now one Shreveport family is making sure the teen fulfills those dreams.

Sarah's voice is catching the eyes of colleges all over the country.  She's now headed to the U.S. Performing Arts Film Acting School based at UCLA.  For the past two years she has saved $2,000 for the school.  The only problem, the teen still needs money for transportation.

Sarah says the acting program has no idea she is having a traveling problem.  She said she is not going to accept anything and she has faith that she will get to the camp.

For years, Sarah and her mom have had a strained relationship and both agreed when she turned 18 years old, she would leave.  Sarah still has one year of high school left at Caddo magnet High and was faced with a decision to rent a small apartment and work while trying to live her dreams.

It was a good friend who know about her situation and asked her parents if Sarah could come and live with them.  Neill and Alice Normand opened up their home to give Sarah a place to live and be able to focus on her school and dreams.

Sarah is a part of the Caddo Magnet Players at her high school and she has also had rolls in plays at Shreveport Little Theater.

The Normand family helped Sarah set up an online fundraising account.  her goal is $800 to help her with transportation to UCLA.  She's hoping to meet her goal by the end of the week so she can purchase her ticket and get to the camp in time on Sunday.
