Shreveport Police say they recovered about 50 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of a car that was abandoned in a chase following an attempted traffic stop Friday morning.
A patrol officer tried to pull the car over around 5 a.m. in West Shreveport, where authorities say the driver refused to stop for the police lights and sirens.
When the driver did pull over, police say he ran, leaving behind the car behind. The officer chased the man, but when he couldn't catch up with him, and returned to the car.
That's when the officer allegedly spotted narcotics in plain view inside the car. That led to the marijuana in the truck, most of it in a suitcase and in bags.
Police estimate that the marijuana has a street value of $40,000.
Authorities say they know who their suspect is and are moving forward with their investigation, which has been turned over to the Caddo Shreveport Narcotics Unit.
